Kennesaw, November 21, 2013 ─ VJI President and CEO Valerie H. Jordan, Senior Tax Consultant Chris Wiggins, and Vice President Nilesh Parekh joined other IPT members and staff from the Georgia Department of Revenue for a One-Day Tax Seminar at The Westin Atlanta Perimeter on November 1. After a welcoming by IPT Executive Director Cass Vickers, the seven-part seminar program presented by Georgia state officials began. Featured in the morning segment were DOR Commissioner Douglas MacGinnite who updated attendees on recent Department news, Deputy Commissioner Peter Donnelly who discussed the DOR Compliance Division, Director of DOR Taxpayer Services Division Ronald Johnson who talked about paperwork reduction and service delivery efficiency, and Executive Director of the SST Governing Board Craig Johnson who talked about the Marketplace Fairness Act.
In the afternoon, Manager Steven Alvarez of the Compliance Discovery Unit discussed Georgia’s Voluntary Disclosure Agreement Program. The results of the first ten months of Georgia’s new tax tribunal was presented by Judge Charles Beaudrot, Jr. and Senior Assistant Georgia Attorney General Warren Calvert. The final segment covering updates from the Georgia Office of Tax Policy Legislation and Regulation was presented by Director Frank O’Connell and three of his staff. “We always attend these important one-day IPT events,” says VJI’s Wiggins. “Although we stay right on top of Georgia tax issues as they develop, there is nothing like hearing about them straight from the horse’s mouth, so to speak. Since we also can ask questions during these events, it’s a great opportunity to clarify issues that are important to our clients.”
