Kennesaw, August 1, 2013 ─ V Jordan, Inc. President and CEO Valerie Jordan and Senior Tax Consultant Chris Wiggins had a busy summer attending several industry conferences including the 37th Annual Conference for The Institute for Professionals in Taxation (IPT), the U.S. Poultry & Egg Association’s 2013 Financial Management Seminar, and the 63rd Annual Meeting of the Southeastern Association of Tax Administrators (SEATA).
The IPT conference, held at the Renaissance Orlando at SeaWorld on June 23-26, was attended by Valerie Jordan. In addition to joining several receptions where she met industry friends and several clients, Valerie listened to the opening keynote address given by Garrison Wynn, the founder of Wynn Solutions. “I really liked how Mr. Wynn used extensive research to discover the characteristics of top performers. His presentation was interesting and funny, and he gave me some ideas that I will be using at VJI.” Valerie also attended some workshops and seminars that covered such topics as statute of limitations issues related to refund claims, working with governmental affairs to benefit the tax consulting industry, and implications of integrated plant theory.
At the same time just a few miles away at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort, Chris Wiggins was attending the U.S. Poultry & Egg Association’s Financial Management Seminar. “I thoroughly enjoyed the keynote address given by Paul Fox, CEO of O.K. Industries. During his ‘Top Management Perspective of Poultry Financial Management’ presentation, Mr. Fox emphasized the important role of financial and accounting functions in what he calls a ‘war’ in the chicken business. We also heard from Dr. Paul Aho, who gave an upbeat prediction for future poultry meat consumption, and from Deborah Perkins, managing director at Rabobank International, who discussed some interesting global consumer eating trends.” Chris also attended break-out sales tax sessions that covered new and pending tax law changes that will affect the poultry and egg industry.
A month later on July 28-31, both Valerie and Chris travelled to the Hilton Head Marriott Resort and Spa to attend the “SEATA by the Sea” conference. Chris played in the golf tournament while Valerie networked with her many industry contacts who also were there. “I went to several invitation-only events including the Commissioners/Industry Council Breakfast and the Industry Council Luncheon. I got to meet and talk to the Department of Revenue Commissioners for Alabama and my home state, Tennessee. Chris and I also won’t forget the keynote address by author and former Marine fighter pilot Charlie Farrell, who gave an inspiring talk based on his best-selling book, Courage to Lead.”
“Chris and I had a wonderful time at the seminar and conferences where we met clients, friends and acquaintances, and had the opportunity to make contacts with industry newcomers,” says Valerie. “We are going to share what we learned and experienced at the next VJI staff meeting and will be using a lot of the information we gathered to help our clients. We are so grateful to be associated with these wonderful organizations and want to thank everyone who was involved in putting together these great annual events for their members.”
