Kennesaw, August 1, 2015 ― VJI President and CEO Valerie Jordan and Tax Manager Chris Wiggins attended the 65th Annual SEATA (Southeastern Association of Tax Administrators) 2015 Conference on July 19-22 at the Atlanta Hyatt Regency hotel. SEATA is a professional organization of tax administrators that promotes fair, equitable, and efficient tax administration. The member states are Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.
“With so many clients with manufacturing plants in the Southeast, our company is heavily invested in maintaining close relationships with tax authority employees in the SEATA member states,” says Jordan. “Because Georgia was the host state, we eagerly looked forward to this conference for many months. As an Industry Council member, I was hoping that we would be able to meet and have conversations with State Commissioners and their representatives.”
“I’m happy to say,” continues Jordan, “that not only did I have some one-on-one time with the Commissioners and their representatives, I also had the privilege of eating breakfast at the table shared by Ms. Lynne Riley, the new Georgia Department of Revenue Commissioner. She and I had a great conversation in which I shared with her how VJI develops long-term client partnerships for the purpose of promoting better tax compliance. She admitted that she was impressed that we train our clients to help them better understand tax laws.”
In addition to attending the reception at the Delta Air Museum, listening to an inspiring keynote address by Commander Kirk Lippold, (commanding officer of the USS Cole), attending various presentations and discussions, and feasting at a closing banquet featuring Georgia Governor Nathan Deal as the honored guest, Jordan was at a special luncheon for Industry Council members, which was attended by key tax experts from large corporations and tax consulting companies.
“Even though our company is very busy right now,” says Jordan, “we would not think of missing this year’s SEATA conference. Who we met and what we learned at the conference are valuable to our clients with whom we will share what we brought back with us from this year’s great event. ”
