Kennesaw, August 24, 2015 ─ Senior Tax Consultant Matt Scott returned to Georgia from Redmond, Washington after attending the Institute for Professionals in Taxation (IPT) Manufacturing and Related Industries SALT Workshop held at Nintendo of America headquarters on July 27-28. The workshop focused on sales and use tax related to manufacturing and included case studies involving issues and examples from the Western U.S.
“The workshop focused primarily on issues in Washington, California, Arizona, Colorado and Utah,” says Scott. “VJI’s staff have provided services for clients with manufacturing in the West for many years. This workshop gave me the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the unique issues that sales and use tax consultants face in the Western states.”
Scott attended workshop sessions about audit strategies and non-traditional ways that taxpayers may qualify for manufacturing exemptions. He also went to sessions that were billed as income tax and property tax “primers” for sales tax professionals. “Workshop attendees agreed that providing sales and use tax services for clients in the West is more challenging than in other areas of the country. The IPT Workshop provided me with more insight that I will apply when I work with our manufacturing clients in the Western U.S.”
