Kennesaw, November 19, 2013 ─ During their careers in the tax industry, V Jordan Inc. sales and use tax consulting staff have developed long and cordial relationships with many top-level personnel at numerous Departments of Revenue. President and CEO Valerie H. Jordan was herself a sales and use tax auditor for the State of Florida. Vice President Nilesh Parekh was an auditor and director for the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts. Their experience working inside and outside these agencies is a great benefit for VJI clients. “We use what we learned as auditors to our clients’ advantage,” says Valerie. “By knowing the tax authority’s processes, how they’re organized, and who makes decisions, we help our clients navigate through the tax collection systems, which in some cases can be a long and frustrating process.”
Some recent examples demonstrate how VJI stays close to these important contacts. During the summer of 2013, Jordan attended the annual SEATA conference in Hilton Head, South Carolina. During the conference, she was invited to attend exclusive events where she met and had discussions with several state department of revenue commissioners. Just recently, she had a private face-to-face meeting with another DOR commissioner during which issues involving our clients’ general interests were discussed.
Chris Wiggins, VJI Senior Tax Consultant, also met several high-level DOR employees at SEATA and recently had a private meeting with a DOR taxpayer services division director with whom he offered a number of suggestions for making the sales and use tax refund claims process more efficient. As a result, he was recognized for his suggestions at a recent tax seminar. “Many times, those who manage taxpayer services don’t have enough external feedback concerning their processes,” says Wiggins. “By establishing and maintaining a win-win relationship with them, we can help them reduce paperwork and increase their efficiency while making it easier for our clients to file and collect refunds.”
