Kennesaw, April 29, 2013 ─ Several V Jordan Inc. staff attended the South Cobb Area Council Social for an event hosted by WellStar Cobb Hospital in Austell, Georgia on April 24. During the event, our staff enjoyed the opportunity to network with business and community leaders and tour the hospital’s operating room in which the da Vinci Surgical System® is installed. On hand were Kem Mullins, Sr. Vice President and WellStar Cobb Hospital President, and Jonathan Runyan, local sales representative for Intuitive Surgical, the manufacturer of the da Vinci machine.
Mr. Mullins spoke about how the WellStar Health System is committed to using the most advanced medical diagnostic and treatment technologies to help its patients. The da Vinci Surgical System, he said, is one of the most recent additions in the system and has generated a great deal of interest in the community. The evening event was held to give the business community a first-hand look at the state-of-the-art robot surgical system.
In the operating room, Mr. Runyan demonstrated how the system works and discussed its various capabilities and advantages. In addition to allowing surgeons to operate on patients in distant locations, using the da Vinci Surgical System leads to reduced lost blood, less pain during recovery, shorter recovery times and hospital stays, and smaller incisions. From the surgeons’ perspective, the technology and optics allow greater maneuverability with the surgical instruments, giving surgeons the ability to perform more complex and challenging surgeries.
During the tour, a V Jordan Inc. employee was able to use the da Vinci robot in demonstration mode. “The 3-D images in the system’s optical system were astoundingly realistic, and I was able to easily manipulate the robotic tools. It was an amazing demonstration,” says Marsha Tucker, Executive Assistant.
“We’re so happy to have been able to attend this event,” says Valerie Jordan, President and CEO of V Jordan Inc. “We would like to thank the Cobb Chamber, Mr. Mullins, Mr. Runyan and all the Wellstar staff who were on hand for the operating room tour. Because we provide tax consulting services for medical and pharmaceutical manufacturers, hospitals, nursing homes, and other medical facilities, we took this opportunity to see how a new advance in technology is used in a medical setting. It was an experience that we will remember for a long time.”
